Marconi Veterans Forced Out.

Some really sad news to share with you. The Marconi Veterans Association have been forced to find an alternative venue for their 2021 annual reunion dinner. Full details here.

The Hamptons has a strong historical link to the Marconi company, and for many locals is still knows as Marconi’s or MASC (Marconi Athletic and Sports Club). The Hamptons Facebook page (and website) stills boasts of it’s history linked to Marconi.

The Chelmsford Muslim Society completed the puchase of the venue in February 2020, and almost immediately closed down the licenced bar. This has led to a number of much loved social nights (like the comedy club) to find althernative venues too. We understand that a number of lucrative function bookings were also cancelled.

For a business struggling for revenue this has proved to be a catastrophic decision.

More recently their onsite caterers (Roamers) have left the club after a long and fruitful association with the venue. Thankfully they too have found alternative premises locally. But more revenue lost by the Hampton’s management.

Did it really make business sense to close the bar, throw out your caterers and your longest running private hire booking (the buddhist meditation class). No wonder the club has enormous debts !

The treatment of the Marconi Veterans has been nothing short of disgusting and shows a lack of investment in the community from the Hampton’s management. Bearing in the mind the support that the MVA have shown to this club for decades, could they not have been accommodated ?

We wish the Marconi Veterans Association every success with the 2021 reunion, and hope to welcome them back to the Hamptons in 2022 !
